Is Google Nexus 9 Tablet Any Good?

It is time to a review of my new tablet, the Google Nexus 9. In this post I will tell you why I choose exactly this Tablet and what I think about it so far.

Review of Google Nexus 9 Tablet

A couple of month ago I posted a review of my Google Nexus 5 Smartphone. I really like the concept of Android devices without a lot of preinstalled bloatware from the tablet vendor. With a Google Nexus tablet, you get a clean, smooth running, Google machine 🙂 The hardware is from HTC, but the tablet is shipped with a clean Android Lollipop installation. That is one of the main reason, why I choose this tablet for myself.  The Google Nexus 9 is available in both a 16 and 32 GB version. Only the 32 GB has the option for mobile connection as well. The 16 GB I chose does only have Wi-Fi. I manly use my tablet at home where I always have Wi-Fi, but if you want to use the Nexus 9 wherever you go, you should go for the pricey 32GB version with mobile 3G/4G/LTE support.

Great Display and Resolution

When I was comparing tablets before choosing the Nexus 9, one of the thing that was important for me was the screen. Google Nexus 5 is has a great clear 8.9 inch QXGA 4:3 screen (1536 x 2048 pixel). Watching photos and videos on this tablet is fantastic.

No MicroSD slot

The Google Nexus 9 has no MicroSD slot for extra storage. With only 16 GB internal storage, it would have been nice to be able to add some extra storage for photos, music and video. However, it seems like a trend in both phones and tablets these days.

Camera

For me, the camera on a tablet is not very important. Especially not when it is a tablet without SIM card, which I properly not will bring with me that often. Changes is that I will be taking my pictures with my smartphone or a real camera and not with my tablet. However, the camera in this tablet is pretty decent. It has an 8 Megapixel rear camera with LED flash that takes ok pictures, at least in daylight. I brought my tablet with me to the local park the other day, to test it. Below you can see some of the pictures I took:

Conclusion

Overall, I am very glad that I bought this tablet. It has a great screen and clean Android installation right out of the box. I knew about the storage limitations when I bought this tablet so that is okay. With Dropbox and Streaming services, it is not that big a problem for me. Surfing the WWW, checking the news and Facebook this tablet is a great user experience if you ask me. With the great screen and speakers in this tablet, watching YouTube and other videos is also a real joy.

    1. Hi
I guess that is kind of religion question. I would always those Android over IOS. No doubt that Apple makes great quality products, but I prefer the open Android system.

  4. The Nexus 9 is a worthwhile alternative to the iPad for those who prefer Android. It even feels like an iPad.

fell in love with Nexus 7 2013, and anxiously waiting for this Nexus 9, but the HTC name turned me off, since the issue I have with HTC phone…the purple tint!…HTC knew about it all along, but ask me 200 buck to fix it, since I discover it after 1 year…

  7. Thanks Thomas, Waiting for arrival of nexus 9 in India.
Not sure is the specification will be same or not.

  8. I don’t like it because it don’t have microSD card slot to expand more storage and easy to transfer video from computer to tablet to watch.

Well, To be honest I didn’t find any huge improvment that Nexus 9 brought. Yet it is one of the best Android tablets out there.

I guess it’s still worth giving a try.
